Single Fork Skid Positioner Lifter — Manual Hand Pump Light-Duty Skid Lifter with Open Three-Side Access
The Vestil VHPS-NM Single Fork Skid Positioner Lifter is a uniquely-designed light-duty skid positioner in Vestil's tote/skid lifter catalog — engineered with ONE large centered fork (instead of the traditional two skinny forks used in standard pallet trucks and tote lifters), giving operators a fundamentally different load engagement geometry that prioritizes open three-side access, simple loading and unloading, and compatibility with half-size skids, baskets, crates, and light industrial containers. Where traditional two-fork lifters require operators to align fork spacing with load runner spacing, the single centered fork engages any open-bottom load with central under-clearance — no fork alignment, no fork-spacing-to-load matching, just slide the load onto the fork from front, left, or right. With your choice of 600 lb capacity (with high lift range up to 40-1/4" for ergonomic worker-height positioning) or 800 lb capacity (with floor-level lift range up to 12" for heavier loads), manual hand pump operation for precise positioning control, 5" poly-on-poly casters for smooth and quiet operation, foot brake for secured stationary positioning, narrow leading base for tight aisle navigation, compact storage design for limited equipment storage spaces, and high-visibility yellow and black safety coloring, the VHPS-NM is the right tool for light-duty positioning operations: workstation positioning of half-size skids, light assembly operations, quality control inspection, retail and merchandising stockroom organization, trade schools and vocational training programs, small business operations without forklift infrastructure, e-commerce small-batch fulfillment, print and binding shops, laboratory and R&D environments, service shops, light maintenance operations, and any operation where 600-800 lb load capacity is sufficient and operational simplicity matters.
What Makes Single Fork Different — A New Design of an Old Classic: Traditional pallet trucks and tote lifters use two parallel forks that slide under skid runners. This design works well for standard GMA-spec skids but creates real operational friction for any load with non-standard geometry: operators must align fork spacing with runner spacing, custom skids with single center beams won't engage, baskets and crates without traditional runner geometry are incompatible, and operators need training to identify which loads will and won't work. The VHPS-NM solves these issues with a SINGLE LARGE CENTERED FORK design — one flat fork engages any load with central under-clearance, regardless of whether the load has two runners, one center beam, four corner supports, or simply a flat-bottom raised on supports. The single fork is OPEN ON THREE SIDES — operators can slide loads onto the fork from the front, left, or right. No alignment, no compatibility guessing, no fork-spacing matching.
Combined Handle — Steering AND Pumping: The high handle of the VHPS-NM serves a dual purpose — it's both the steering control for maneuvering the unit AND the pumping mechanism for raising and lowering the fork. Operators use the same handle for transport and lifting — no separate pump foot pedal, no rocker switch on a power unit, no hand lever to find. This combined design simplifies training, reduces operator confusion, and eliminates the cognitive switching between transport-mode and lift-mode that operators experience with multi-control lifters. New operators can be productive within minutes; experienced operators benefit from streamlined workflow.
Choose Your Configuration — Two SKUs with DIFFERENT Use Cases:
-
VHPS-NM-600-39 — 600 lb Capacity, High Lift Range (4" to 40-1/4"): Choose this variant for ergonomic positioning of lighter loads at workstation height. The high lift range (up to 40-1/4") raises loads to comfortable worker height for assembly, inspection, kitting, and similar workstation operations. Best for operations where ergonomic worker height matters more than maximum load capacity.
-
VHPS-NM-800-11 — 800 lb Capacity, Floor-Level Range (3-1/4" to 12"): Choose this variant for heavier loads positioned at or near floor level. The higher capacity (800 lbs) accommodates heavier skids and baskets, but the lift range is limited to 12" maximum — sufficient for transferring loads across floor levels, transitioning between work zones, or low-elevation positioning. Best for operations where load weight matters more than ergonomic worker height.
⚠️ Important — Capacity vs Lift Range Trade-Off: These two SKUs have an INVERSE relationship between capacity and lift range. The 600 lb variant has the HIGHER lift range (40-1/4"); the 800 lb variant has the LOWER lift range (12"). You cannot get both maximum capacity AND maximum lift height in this product line — the engineering trade-off is a real constraint. If your operation needs both heavy capacity (1,500+ lbs) AND ergonomic worker-height positioning, see our standard L-Series tote lifters (3,000 lb capacity, lift to ~46"+) or HIPM High Rise Lift Trucks (2,500 lb capacity, multiple power options) instead.
5" Poly-on-Poly Casters — Soft Roll, Floor-Safe: The VHPS-NM rolls on 5" poly-on-poly casters — softer than the poly-on-steel casters used on standard L-Series tote lifters. Poly-on-poly construction delivers better floor protection (no metal-on-floor contact even under load), quieter operation (less rolling noise than poly-on-steel), smoother roll on industrial flooring, and resistance to chemicals and oils common in industrial environments. The trade-off vs poly-on-steel is slightly higher rolling resistance under load — but for a 600-800 lb capacity positioner, this is not a meaningful concern.
Foot Brake for Secured Positioning: The VHPS-NM includes a foot brake for securing the unit during stationary use. When operators need to step away from the handle to interact with the load, position the unit precisely, or use the lifter as a temporary workstation, the foot brake holds the unit in place — preventing roll-away during transition periods. The brake is operator-engaged (not automatic) — operators choose when to lock the unit and when to release it for transport.
Compact Storage Design: When not in use, the VHPS-NM takes up minimal floor space — important for operations with limited equipment storage areas. Unlike larger two-fork tote lifters that occupy significant floor footprint, the VHPS-NM's compact dimensions allow storage in tight corners, against walls, or in equipment closets. For operations where equipment storage is a daily logistics challenge, the compact design pays back in space efficiency.
Narrow Leading Base for Tight Spaces: The front-most width of the VHPS-NM is engineered narrow — allowing the unit to navigate tight aisles, confined workspaces, doorways, and crowded industrial floor layouts. Operations with limited aisle space, congested floor layouts, or specific clearance constraints benefit from this design choice. The narrow base maintains stability through the unit's weight distribution while reducing the lateral footprint required for maneuvering.
Yellow and Black Safety Color: The VHPS-NM ships in high-visibility yellow with black accents — brightly colored for clear visibility in industrial environments. Yellow color provides better visibility in operations with pedestrian/equipment proximity, mixed equipment zones, or facilities subject to OSHA visibility requirements for moving equipment. The yellow/black combination is the industrial safety standard for "caution: moving equipment."
Manual Hand Pump Operation — No Batteries, No Power: The VHPS-NM is manual hand pump only — no DC battery option, no AC plug-in, no air-powered variant. This is the entire product family. Manual operation delivers precise positioning control (operators can fine-tune lift height incrementally), eliminates battery maintenance and charging routines, eliminates power outlet requirements, allows operation in any location regardless of power infrastructure, and provides simpler operator training. For operations valuing simplicity, low maintenance, and complete power-source independence, the manual-only design is a feature rather than a limitation. For operations needing powered lift, see our DC-powered L-Series or HIPM lifters instead.
⚠️ Light-Duty Capacity — Compare Carefully: The VHPS-NM is rated for 600 or 800 lbs depending on variant. This is SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER than other tote/skid lifters in Vestil's catalog (HIPM 2,500 lbs, L-Series 2,000-3,000 lbs, Pramac 2,200 lbs, TAL 2,200 lbs). This is a LIGHT-DUTY POSITIONER — designed for half-size skids, baskets, light containers, and ergonomic workstation positioning of moderate loads. Buyers attempting to lift standard pallet loads (1,500+ lbs) or heavy industrial loads will OVERLOAD the unit and risk equipment damage or operator injury. Verify your load weights are within the VHPS-NM's rated capacity before ordering.
⚠️ WORKS WITH OPEN-BOTTOM LOADS: The VHPS-NM engages loads via the centered fork that slides UNDER the load. This requires open-bottom geometry — half-size skids with central under-clearance, baskets with under-clearance, crates with center support cavity, and similar loads. Standard GMA pallets (closed bottom) are NOT compatible. Two-runner skids designed for traditional two-fork lifters may work but should be verified — the centered fork engages the SPACE BETWEEN the runners rather than the runners themselves.
Recommended Pairing — Vestil AP-2424-SB Aluminum Half-Size Skids: Vestil specifically recommends pairing the VHPS-NM with their AP-2424-SB Aluminum Half-Size Skids — the geometric match between the centered fork design and the half-size skid dimensions creates an optimized handling system. The aluminum skids are lightweight (compatible with the VHPS-NM's load capacity ceiling), provide consistent under-clearance geometry, and create a complete light-duty handling solution.
